The retreat at a glance

Arriving in Málaga, a transfer service will be waiting to bring you to the farm. Along the coast and up into the mountains, you’ll experience the true Andalucían landscape; endless fields of olive and almond trees, and the sparkling Meditarranean sea. Once you arrive and after introductions and orientations, we have our first family-style meal and an early night after a big travel day. For the following 3 mornings, it’s early morning al fresco breakfasts while the Sun warms your skin, followed by class for a few hours, a tea break, some more class before lunch, and a siesta before the afternoon session. Each evening, we gather for a communal family style meal, and then the evening is for you to enjoy. Watch the Sun disappear behind one mountain and the Moon rise from another, go for a stroll with a new friend, or simply curl up with a book. On the last 2 days, the days are slower paced, with a later breakfast, optional massage treatments, relaxing time by the pool, or as much hiking as you like. On one afternoon, we’ll be taking you on a local wine tasting and bodega tour, as well as a visit to a local town for some shopping and lunch. And, on the final evening, we’ll celebrate the week with a Sobremesa style dinner laden with local, seasonal delicacies.

your teacher -

Carmel Andrews LMT, BCTMB

As a practitioner and educator for the last 27 years, I have transformed my passion and excitement for grounded, efficient and client centered bodywork into a contemporary offering that helps working therapists expand their client reach while also vastly improving their client outcomes.

My background is diverse and encompasses clinical focus in pain management, international private practice and world-class spa leadership.

Some of my teaching specializations include Myofascial Release, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Ashiatsu (Barefoot Massage), and Traditional Thai.

All of my courses, while honoring traditional roots are formatted to integrate current understandings of the pain experience, psychosocial interplay and physiological evidence with technique refinement for the modern practice. Each student in my course receives not only a modern tool-set but also a personal evaluation of how those tools will work with what they are currently achieving with their clients.

As a life-long student myself I am deeply fulfilled by engaging with learners in their transformation to be more confident and compassionate bodyworkers. Loving and being present for those I serve is the most important part of this work and sharing that with my students is the very best part of my practice!

Thai Massage has a rich cultural history and is practiced all across the world as a deeply effective movement therapy. The gentle and flowing, passive movements of Thai can improve local circulation, increase range of motion and support increased mobility and function for all types of bodies.

This course is exceptional in that you will learn to apply traditional techniques of a full-body Thai protocol for both floor and table, while also using the individual moves as an integrative expansion of any type of work you are already successfully using in your practice. You will be fluent with Thai massage as a stand-alone treatment, while also expanding skills in every other facet of your work. This is a 24 hours NCBTMB CE Credit/24 Hours ITEC Endorsed Course.

What you will receive –

  • A full protocol of traditional Thai techniques including prone, side/lying and supine positioning. That can be used on the floor mat or massage table.

  • Review the history and energetic theory of the Sib Sen meridian system and its importance to the Thai movements.

  • Client communication skills to safely and effectively sink into stretch and range of motion.

  • An individual evaluation of your own body positioning as it relates to Thai massage work and your current practice on both floor mat and massage table.

  • Access to follow up protocol videos and alumni support.

  • All equipment and supplies provided on-site.
